Because a wide band of frequencies is available, information can be sent on many different frequencies or channels within the band at the same time, allowing more information to be transmitted in a given amount of time.

Broadband is high data rate internet access and as Sussex County continues to face rapid growth and development, the need for affordable and accessible broadband telecommunications infrastructure is critical in order for the region's residents, governments, schools, and businesses to become actively and competitively engaged in an increasing information-driven economy.

The website below was developed cataloguing the broadband applications that are being utilized by a variety of sectors in the county and examining existing and emerging technological options that could be utilized to enhance broadband use. In addition, public access Wi-Fi locations in Sussex County were inventoried and mapped using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. Finally, a survey was conducted of businesses, municipalities, and the agricultural community to assess current use of satisfaction with, and need for enhanced broadband services.
